Branches in central region works hard to mow grass, fill potholes
The AfriForum branches in the central region (Free State, North West, and KwaZulu-Natal) showed their willingness to work hard to better their communities. These branches, among other things, cut 159 hectares of grass and used nearly 20 tons of tar to fill potholes.
The Sasolburg branch has once again proven that few can hold a candle to them when it comes to mowing grass. This branch mowed grass over an area of 110.6 ha, almost as large as 111 standard rugby fields, and it seems they have no intention of putting the mowers away anytime soon. The Rustenburg branch mowed 39.65 ha of grass during this period.
In Lichtenburg and Kroonstad, the AfriForum branches are definitely the masters of potholes. The Kroonstad branch used 10 tons of tar to fill potholes, and the Lichtenburg branch 9.7 tons of tar. The Lichtenburg branch has been busy clearing potholes in this town for some time now.
AfriForum Vullisverwydering (refuse removal), an affordable and reliable refuse removal service in Bloemfontein, also removed 107 tons of rubbish from Bloemfontein communities during this time.
“The work that our branches do shows that communities do not have to just complain about poor service delivery; they can stand up and make a difference themselves. When people stand together and take responsibility for their environment, our towns can once again become places that we can be proud of,” says Jaco Grobbelaar, AfriForum’s regional head for the central region.
In addition to piles of grass and tons of tar, the AfriForum branches in this region also removed refuse, undertook various clean-up actions, painted street names and road markings, and even conducted safety audits at a few schools.
