OnsDorp: AfriForum and others work together to give neighbourhood a new lease of life

AfriForum’s Klerksdorp branch worked with the Doringkruin Neighbourhood Watch in December and launched a large-scale neighbourhood renewal project as part of AfriForum’s national #OnsDorp campaign. This project ran from 18 December 2025 to 21 January 2026.

So far, this team has cleaned an area of over 47 000 m2, almost the size of seven rugby fields. This includes cutting grass along Muranti Road, as well as the complete rehabilitation of Karee and Tambotie Parks. In addition to the grass cutting, invasive thorn trees were removed and trees along the road were neatly pruned to enhance the aesthetic value of the neighbourhood.

This project was made possible through a partnership between the AfriForum branch, Doringkruin Neighbourhood Watch and the local community. The total cost for the current phase amounts to R 14 835.00. These funds are used directly for the operating costs of the project, including fuel, oil, equipment maintenance and compensation for the people who perform the physical labour.

The sustainability of this initiative, however, rests on the shoulders of every resident. To permanently maintain the work team and ensure that Klerksdorp’s parks and streets do not deteriorate again, the community’s active participation is necessary. “We encourage every resident of Doringkruin to join hands with this work team. Either with a financial contribution or by rolling up their sleeves and getting involved. Every little bit helps to ensure that our town remains a place where we can live with pride,” says Alta Pretorius, AfriForum’s district coordinator for the Mooi River.

Residents who would like to make contributions or require more information on how to support the work team can contact Frans Roos at 083 378 8826.
